*Exclusive*: A unique 3D animation of the Sudden Stratospheric Warming over south pole, produced by Severe Weather Europe!
Sudden stratospheric warming events always occur on a large scale. It is not easy to imagine them, so we sometimes have to get creative and display them in a whole new way. Yesterday we wrote about the strong stratospheric warming over the south pole. Sudden stratospheric warming over the south pole, rising temperatures more than 40°C above normal. The visualization team at Severe Weather Europe produced a unique 3D display of the sudden stratospheric warming over the south pole, for a better understanding of its dynamics. Here is a description of the video so you will better understand what you are looking at: The whole box over the south pole shows the atmosphere from 12 km to 56 km altitude. […]
The statement coming from Josh Morgerman, aka The Hurricane Man / iCyclone, that is saying something. Arguably the most prolific and active hurricane chaser in the world, Mr. Morgerman has ridden out extreme events, like Super Typhoon Haiyan and Hurricane Maria. Intercepting as close to the eye as possible, he obtains weather data as well as video. After days of communications blackout, which had the entire hurricane and storm chaser communities increasingly worried for his well-being, Mr. Morgerman sent out a short series of tweets, recollecting his ordeal with Hurricane Dorian: Yep, I’m alive. Made it to Nassau. #Hurricane #DORIAN: By far the most intense cyclone I’ve witnessed in 28 years of chasing. Thought I was playing it safe by […]
First aerial surveys are being conducted in the northern Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian ploughed through. It spent two full days grinding the islands with major hurricane force winds, peaking at CAT5 and 185 mph (298 km/h). Extremely severe winds combined with a massive storm surge, reaching as much as 8 m high. The devastation in the wake of Dorian looks like the aftermath of a nuclear blast. Here is a 2-day radar animation of #Dorian from KAMX (1000 UTC 1 Sep – 0332UTC 3 Sep). Watch the eye come into view, undergo an ERC over #GrandBahama island & then remain stationary for the rest of the day as it slowly degrades & broadens from ocean upwelling / land interaction. pic.twitter.com/LFOkNNlHR8 […]
Pohlad on marju täis
Sept 3rd morning UPDATE: CAT 3 Hurricane Dorian still almost stationary – the future behavior and potential track and effect to the US coast
Hurricane Dorian maintains its CAT 3 strength with sustained winds 120 mph (= 195 km/h) and central pressure around 950 mbar. Surprisedly enough, Dorians’ past 24-hour behavior has been nothing but exceptional – it was literally stalled with its center just north of Grand Bahama island. The island was more or less constantly under the intense SW and SE eyewall. Daytime has finally arrived over Dorian this morning (local time), revealing the eye was covered with clouds, meaning the Eyewall Replacement Cycle (ERC) is still ongoing. Based on IR satellite scans we can see the explosive convection remains across SE and NW quadrants while the western parts are slightly weekend. This is likely due to some weak shear effect further […]
Loomade suhtlemine helide abil on selgroogsete seas laialt levinud.
