Täna varahommikune hetk, kui temperatuur käis ära ka miinus poolel.
The now Tropical Storm Leslie remains a well-organized tropical system and is expected to become a hurricane again in two days. Leslie will then head towards Madeira island or midway between Azores and Canary islands before nearing west-southwest Europe this weekend. Potential exists for possible landfall in Portugal or even Ireland per global models, trends are being monitored. The future path of Leslie leads it towards southeast through the next 3 days, then it turns east-northeast and heads towards Azores and Madeira island later this week. The arrival time to the islands would be late Thursday or Friday morning. However, Leslie’s future track is still quite uncertain based on global models: here is an example of the latest GFS model […]
A shallow cyclone, designated #92L has developed midway between the Azores and the Canary Islands this past weekend. It is currently located just west of Madeira island, gradually moving east. This cyclone does not have tropical characteristics, but consists of widespread thunderstorms which could potentially result in flash floods across Madeira and possibly parts of the Canary Islands in the next few days. Infrared satellite image and water vapour satellite animation indicate cyclone’s centre just west of Madeira island, with some deep convection on its eastern part. The position of the cyclone today and accumulated precipitation until Wednesday. The future path of this cyclone will likely lead it between Madeira and Canary islands before turning NE towards NW Morocco, Gibraltar […]
Täna käisin mutionul külas, teeb ikka kadedaks küll kus sellel vennal on alles vaadet.
The major change in weather pattern next week will likely bring a period of warm weather, with temperatures well above average for this time of the year. Additionally, exceptionally warm temperatures are expected to push far north into northern Scandinavia and far north into the Arctic ocean as far as Svalbard and Greenland. The weather pattern across Europe next week will be dominated by a strengthening ridge over the eastern half of the continent and a broad low pressure area over the Atlantic, which will be ejecting consecutive deep cyclones towards the British Isles and Ireland. Warm weather will persist under the stable ridge and additional warm air advection will push warm air northward into western Europe ahead of deep […]

Czech upper atmosphere lightning observer Martin Popek reports sprites above the thunderstorms over the northern Adriatic sea last night, October 6/7, 2018. Sprites at 21:29:05 UTC. Photo: Martin Popek. Popek operates low-light cameras out of Nydek, to detect transient luminous events in the higher atmosphere, including meteors and upper atmosphere lightning. He highly successful, capturing many events over the past years. Last night he recorded two sprites above the squall line in the Kvarner bay, NW Croatia. Each sprite was extremely brief, lasting only hundredths of a second, extending up to about 70 km above the thunderstorms. The extreme height of sprites is also the reason why they were visible so far away: the distance from the camera to storms […]
A number of tornadoes were reported across much of Italy on Saturday, October 6. Both non-mesocyclonic and mesocyclonic tornadoes were recorded, reflecting the dynamics of the low affecting the region. Waterspout off Favignana island, Sicily, south Italy on October 6. Report: Weather Sicily. The current weather pattern over Italy is characterized by a large cutoff low. On Saturday the south of Italy was under a moderate mid-level jetstream, overlapping with moderate instability. Up to 1000-1500 J/kg MLCAPE was in place around Sicily, Campania and Puglia. Conditions were generally supportive for supercell thunderstorms and tornadoes. A spectacular tornadic supercell formed off the coast of Favignana island, Sicily. Time lapse video of the storm shows textbook tornadic supercell: looking at the supercell […]
